At Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we continue to add to our collectible sculptures so that you too, can add to yours at home each season. We have shared many artists and designers of these whimsical characters with you over the years, but one collection that remains a customer favorite, is that of Williraye Studio. Today, we feature two new additions that are perfect for the Halloween holiday.
Pictured here to the left is our Witchy Wonderland Halloween Sculpture, just in time for the festivities this fall. Dressed for a night of trick-or-treating, this sculpture adds quirk in true Halloween style to a mantle or side table in your home. This witch holds a large black cat with matching purple and black striped hat. And her bat companion doesn’t leave her side on this Halloween night, on top of her pumpkin-head broom. This resin reproduction was originally hand painted and handcrafted by Bobbe Punzel-Schuknecht and Jeff Schuknecht, the talented designers of Williraye Studio.
The creative process of such sculptures as Witchy Wonderland, begins with the imagination of Bobbe and is then partnered with the accomplished carving talents of her husband Jeff. Their art studio sits nestled in the rolling hills of rural Wisconsin, where life on the farm is expressed in their art. **An interesting fact: the name Williraye is a combination of their middle names. Willi short for Jeff’s middle name William, and Raye for Bobbe’s middle name.
Next up is our Devil-iciously Good Halloween Sculpture, seen here on the left. Also ready for a spooky night of trick-or-treating, this sculpture complements other Halloween decorative displays very well. The large black cat’s hair stands straight up on his back, as both the cat and the boy appear to be frightened by something near by. Dressed in a red devil costume with every detail in place, this sculpture is packed with Halloween fun. If you look closely, you will even find a spider along for the ride.
The joint effort shared in creating each of these comical characters, is one that Williraye Studio is very proud of. Bobbe feels as though she is telling a story through her work, and the detailed carving and painting bring them to life. In their spare time, Bobbe and Jeff enjoy life on the farm and collect various antiques together. They are both very pleased that through their work, they are touching the lives of folk art lovers everywhere. As always, either of these collectible figurines would make a great gift idea too.
