An Eye-Catching Hue this Winter

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

The color of red is an enchanting and magical color. Depending on how you display or light an area with red, it can have either an energetic feel like a fast sports car or perhaps a soft and muted feel like an old rusted red barn. Though of course, red also evokes a feeling of romance and love. However you choose to represent this primary color of the rainbow, consider the collection of red themed items from Sturbridge Yankee Workshop for your home today.

The Aura of Love

Pictured here to the left is our Classic Country Check Curtains, which are propped in an environment easily recreated in your kitchen or dining area. If you like the hanging light fixture over the table, our Fort Hill Pendant comes in red as well. For seating consider the Farmhouse Chair or Saddle Stool, both which come in a crisp, traditional red color. Red is a wonderful color to have in a dining area because the hue stimulates our appetites!

Red is known to be an emotionally intense color, hence why it is closely related to love and passion. Red creates a feeling of energy in any living space and will surely be noticed because the brain is naturally attracted to the contrast the color gives to an everyday (usually more neutral) environment. Don’t wear red however if dealing with a negotiation or confrontation. This is when red, due to its vibrancy, can distract or confuse the other party. Not to worry though, in home decorating red is a fabulous accent color.

Bold & Vibrant

For the bedroom, a customer favorite is our Holly Garden Quilt seen here to the right. Beautiful ferns, flowers and vines meander through a quilted landscape of vibrant red cotton in our Holly Garden collection. Machine washable quilts include an extra layer of warmth with a soft, striped cotton backing. Edged in a delicate scalloped design, there are coordinating shams, throws and block pillow also available.

Other ideas in regards to highlighting red in your domestics, include our Hilliker Rabbit Pillow featuring the popular “Hilliker Bunny” by artist Lisa Hilliker. Or if it’s kitties you prefer, try our Sleeping Kitty Pillow, crafted of the softest hand hooked wool by artist Warren Kimble.

Red Accents

It’s all about the accents when decorating with this powerful color and at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we have just what you need.  Our red Vintage Wall Phone, which is great for a retro style kitchen or as a ‘conversation’ piece in the office. Features include: redial, call waiting and the modern convenience of touch tone. Other “pops” of red that are easy to achieve are those that can be mounted on your walls. Like our Personalized Kitchen Sign or our Dalmatian Print (seen below) for an eye-catching focal point of any room. If you’re environmentally conscious then you’ll love our Red Compost Keeper, which makes it easy to recycle rinds, peels, and eggshells out of sight and to compost your garden; of course in a classic red, ceramic container.

Energy Around the House

Spread the energy of this powerful color throughout your entire home by covering all aspects of it, not to forget the floors! When it comes to going red on your floors, Sturbridge Yankee Workshop has you covered. We have many red themed rugs and you can browse the entire category here, but there are a couple favorites worth mentioning. First, our Infinity Rug (seen below) offers the rich look of an antique rug without the hefty price tag. Combining a hard-twist nylon construction with a space-dying technique for greater depth and range of color. You’ll appreciate the modern take on the Jacobean flower pattern, which features beautiful shades of sangria red, terra cotta, onyx, sage and autumn bronze.

Next, is our Crimson Family Rug. Displaying an intricate folk art pattern and plush feel, this rug highlights the warm red tones to enhance your red themed decor. And its beauty lasts, thanks to stain resistant, easy-care polypropylene.

You can even carry the bold color of red to the outdoors with our Cardinal Bracket. Crafted in Maine from quality recycled steel and powder coated with a weather protective finish, this bracket can hold a hanging plant or other outdoor bells etc. Red creates a sharp look when paired with black, so remember that when choosing rooms to focus your red in. Let these romantic red items from Sturbridge Yankee Workshop spice up your decorating today!
