Thursday’s Theme: Inspiring Entryways for 2019

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

The start of a new year is the perfect opportunity to take stock of our belongings, clean out our storage and do some organizing. The entryway to your home is a great place to start, because it’s likely one of the smaller, or at least less cluttered areas of the house, and it’s the space that welcomes you home at the end of every day. Today we’re sharing some inspiring entryways that offer ways to keep coats, shoes and accessories accessible but tidy, as well as ideas for keeping the space fresh and inviting all year long.

Shelf, cupboard, hanging and drawer storage – this entryway has it all! The practical inspiration we draw from it is that sometimes an exploration of available storage options is necessary and helpful in finding the the one(s) that work for your family and lifestyle. Of course, we also love the wall art, flowers, small table and floor mats – these types of accessories make any entryway more welcoming.

The flowers and basket really caught our eye in this entryway, and then we noticed the tags hanging from the baskets on the top shelf. If you do utilize overhead basket storage – which is great for seasonal decor or items only used a few times a year – adding labels like these charming tags will give a more refined look to the space and prevent you from having to pull down each basket to remember what’s inside.

Painting is always an option for refreshing a room, and whether you’re painting an entire wall of storage, a bench, or your front door, a splash of [any] color gives your entryway a new mood for the new year.

Is 2019 the year of the wine entryway? It’s a little too early to tell, but regardless, we love how this wood bench contrasts with the white beadboard wainscoting and rug, and how the pillow seems to pull everything together. It’s remarkable what a simple, sturdily constructed bench can do for an entryway.

A great use for an old dresser or a vintage find; this entryway is brightened with the use of the mirror – which breaks up the beige color scheme with its rich wood frame – and vibrant rug. An accent lamp, small basket and a plant are great additions to the room; and highlight how style and function can coexist satisfactorily in your home.

We will always feel inspired by wood grains and stately front doors. We love the height of the cabinet and that top shelf – floor to ceiling storage is definitely a good look in a spacious entryway.

And we couldn’t resist this extra dog-friendly space – maybe it will inspire Fido to be more careful with dripping water and spreading dog hair this year. We can hope, right?

New Pet Themed Home Decor from SYW

Friday, January 25th, 2013

Here at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop we love our family pets just as much as you do, and we know how important they are towards making a home truly feel like “home.” Your dogs and cats might even play an intricate role in how you decorate various living spaces as well. So here are just some of our ideas for how to use pet themed items in a functional manner, that will also enhance your home decor. Today’s focus, none other than man’s best friend: Dogs.

Wipe Your Paws

Pictured here to the left is our new for winter, Wipe Your Paws Wall Shelf. Handcrafted of solid knotty pine, this wall shelf is a Sturbridge Yankee Workshop exclusive design. The shelf doubles as a rack with its three square head, rustic iron nails. Ideal for hanging leashes, keys, scarves, and more in the entryway, its pet themed nature is actually suitable for either cat or dog owning families. The words “Wipe Your Paws,” and tiny paw prints are painted in white on a black base. Rubbed edges add to its handmade appeal. You might also consider hanging the shelf in a garage or hallway, where extra storage space is always needed. Customers should expect natural variation in the wood grain and finish due to its handmade nature, which is proudly constructed here in the USA.

Dogs in All Shapes & Sizes

Highlighting the family dog within your home decor can be done so in a variety of ways here at Sturbridge. We have everything from the wall shelf shown above, to pillows, wall decor, and such decoratives as our new Metal Dog Sculpture shown here to the right. Home accents, especially in our dog category, offer a unique appeal to many different home decor styles. For example, this dog sculpture is hand chiseled and shaped from recycled steel drums; appealing to both the Eco-minded and artistically inclined households.

Distressed to resemble an antique decorative, the finish and detail will vary on the piece, due to its handcrafted nature. Display in the mudroom to have him greet your guests as they walk through the door, or decorate a mantle shelf and admire the dog as a piece of sculptural art. And we cant forget about our large selection of dog wall decor, as mentioned above. Our new Sunshine on a Cloudy Day Sign, shown below is a good place to start. Hang this made in the USA, white pine wall sign on any blank wall to let your dog know (and everyone else), how appreciated they are in the home.
