Monday, March 31st, 2014
Creating truly unique hand painted and hand fired ceramic creations, artist Katherine Washburn is a featured artist at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop.
Golden Retriever Oval Platter
Katherine Washburn has been firing ceramics since her first, albeit unrecognizable, imaginatively hued project at the age of three. Her fascination with pottery was then nurtured and trained for years as she devoted 22 years of her adult life to teaching Special Education in public school systems around the nation. In the year 2000, Kathy returned to her art full time, with her throwing wheel, artist brushes and paints, while never far away, becoming closer as she devoted her time to them. While focusing on cats and dogs, Kathy also creates custom creatures to reach her customer’s desires.

Showcased with a lovable face and a red bandanna around its neck, this cuddly pup is ready to make you smile every time you see it. Truly unique design by Vermont artist Katherine Washburn.

Ceramic mug is perfect for your morning coffee, with your warm and fuzzy pet by your side. Even better, this ceramic mug is 100% microwave and dishwasher safe. Hand painted and fired with a food safe glaze for long lasting durability and quality not found anywhere else.

Country Cow Bowl

This bright bovine is ready to serve, your supper that is! Handcrafted by Vermont folk artist Katherine Washburn to showcase this farm animal with big eyes and a puff of black furry hair on its head. A red kerchief makes this cow look festive enough for even the most formal of place settings. Folk art imagery with tiny dots and wheat ears decorate three-fourths of the edge, as the hand painted image of the cow fills the rest of the bowls interior. Flare edge makes lifting this bowl a breeze, and the large size accommodates many dishes. Even better, this ceramic dish is 100% microwave and dishwasher safe.

Made in the USA: Entryway Decorating

Monday, October 28th, 2013

Greet your guests as soon as they arrive with a welcoming atmosphere that will make them want to come inside and stay for a warm cup of tea. Here we feature some of our favorite furnishings to spruce up your entryway or mudroom, all made right here in the USA.

Fantastic Florals

It is easy to grab attention with our range of natural and faux floral arrangements, but there is something extra special about these options. Perhaps it is because they use nature inspired components, or the fact that they are created in the beautiful Cape Cod area along the ocean in Massachusetts.  You could even use this wreath above your mantel space, or as part of your table centerpiece for a dramatic appearance. These displays are expertly arranged to enhance the handmade appeal. Please note, these wreaths are recommended for indoor use only. Here we have our Merlot Willow Wreath, Enchanted Forest Wreath and First Snow Wreath.

High Back Bench with Tree Carving

A Comfortable Seat With Rustic Charm

All of our made in the USA knotty pine furniture is primitive, natural, and full of country charm. This bench, with its tree shaped cut out, is perfect for year round use. Dress it down in the off season with woodland themed items, and enhance the holiday appeal all winter long with your favorite red and green decor. This bench will offer a place for guests to sit when removing snow covered boots, or a neat option for displaying your favorite hooked wool pillows.

A Place To Wipe Your Feet

No one likes muddy foot tracks across the house, which is why doormats are such a great (and often needed) addition to your entryway or mudroom. It is okay to ask your guests to keep things neat by wiping their feet or removing their shoes when they step inside! These festive doormats feature vivid artwork by artist Dianna Swartz. Choose from the holiday wreath, or the joyful snowman.

Celebrate Jazz in New England

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Fourth of July WreathMay 28th is International Jazz Day. This uniquely American musical form was born in New Orleans, but thrives all over the world. From the beginning of the 20th century, African American communities in the Southern United States merged a variety of West African and European musical traditions. A pop cultural form, it set itself apart with its use of syncopation, improvisation, and polyrhythms as well as “blue notes,” pitches sung slightly flat for effect, and “swung notes,” notes played with unequal rhythm.

Jazz has evolved over the years and spun off a number of popular varieties including, ragtime, big band, swing, dixieland, bebob, fusion, latin, funk, and hip-hop.

This summer, celebrate Americana at its best with a live Jazz performance. For a listing of New England Jazz venues and performances, check out New England Traditional Jazz Plus.
