Monday Must-Haves: Nautical Home Accents

Monday, June 26th, 2017

Industrial Oval Mirror

Get the most timeless nautical look this summer and throughout the year with a few must-have home accents combined with your personal style and tastes. For additional nautical inspiration and coastal decor, visit our website.

Walls

Nautical prints and landscapes are beautiful when hanging on your walls. We recommend being choosy about the art you display – don’t just throw something up for the sake of covering a bare space. So while you collect just the right piece or pieces, hang a stylish mirror like our Industrial Oval Mirror. Its industrial design and likeness to a ship’s porthole make it a great addition to a nautical room or home.

Sailor Cat Hooked Wool PillowPillow

You won’t be surprised when we choose a hand hooked wool pillow for a nautical must-have. This Sailor Cat Pillow by artist Mary Lake Thompson carries all the charm of a feline seafarer, and the hooked wool adds a
natural texture perfect for this style.

Adjustable Cage Floor LampLighting

When decorating your home with the sea in mind, you can almost never go wrong with caged lamps.

This Adjustable Cage Floor Lamp with a bronzed finish enhances the warmth of other home accents, and while the shade is decorative, it also allows plenty of light through to illuminate your nautical space at night.

Lobster on Stripes Accent Rug

Annie Soft SculptureAccent Rug

One of our favorite new web exclusive home accent just so happens to be perfect for nautical decorating. Blue and white are the nautical colors, and a bright red lobster reinforces coastal charm.

You can also get this Liora Manne design on an indoor/outdoor pillow.

Collectible

Joe Spencer is back with a pair of sailor soft sculptures. Shown here is Annie, holding a sailor’s knot and sporting a lovely sailor’s uniform. Her bottom is weighted, allowing Annie to sit on a shelf, mantel or table next to seashells, an additional sailor’s knot or her companion Avery.

Make Summer Last Just a Little Bit Longer with the Maine Seashore

Monday, August 20th, 2012

As we near the end of August, you perhaps are looking ahead towards the busy season of fall, kids returning to school and cooler weather soon to come. Though there’s still time to keep summer going just a little bit longer, with the help of Sturbridge Yankee Workshop beach themed decor. Bring a touch of the Maine seashore into your home, to make the transition from summer into fall, an easier one.

If your looking to bring some of that “Maine feel” back with you after your summer vacation, or just would rather spend your days dreaming of the Atlantic seashore, then you’ve come to the right place.

Featured here to the left, we know you’ll love our Shoreline Wreath. A day on the sand listening to the waves, is captured in summer beauty with this wreath designed on a natural twig base. Arranged with aveena, green caspia, dried bamboo, and adorned with familiar sea life such as: sand dollars, small conches, sea urchins, orange starfish, snail shells, and scallops — this wreath can set the tone in any room. Other wall decor options for a Maine beach theme in your home would be our new Shell Hanger and Vertical Shell Swag; both filled with reminders of collecting seashells and proudly made in the USA.

In a kitchen or bathroom, consider our Lobster Waffle Towel. Maine is known world wide for this red underwater crustacean, and this towel features an embroidered tribute. Made of 100% machine washable cotton, the absorbent towel is a charming, New England decorative touch. To coordinate on the floor, try our Lobster Rug and while cooking, a must have apron: the new Don’t Get Me Steamy Apron.

Pictured below is the Coastal Anchor Pillow, offering a bold accent to a bed, couch or chair. The 100% cotton pillows is designed with printed markings and a blue anchor, presenting an “on the dock” frame of mind, perhaps after returning from a day spent sailing the Maine coastline.

Summertime in Maine has a lot to offer. From boating and lobster to camping, rocky beaches and blueberries, there is always something to do with friends and family when you Visit Maine. If you’re not ready to give up on the sunshine and flip flops just yet, decorate an area of your home as if it were a true Maine beach environment, and you’ll always have a place to go and feel relaxed.

~* Nautical Decorating with SYW

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Happy first day of summer! Here on the east coast, we sure are pleased that the summer weather has decided to come too. Could reach over 90°F by this afternoon! Perhaps many of you will celebrate by spending the day at the beach or by the water somewhere. In honor of more beautiful beach days to come, today we share how to decorate with a nautical and seaside theme. Let’s take a look below.

All of us at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop are excited about the many new nautical items now offered, some exclusively on our website. One of those new items is none other than the America’s Lighthouses Coverlet, pictured on the bed here to the left. Making a lovely summer bedding option or the perfect addition to your beach themed bedroom, this coverlet is 100% cotton with a double face knitting. When decorating for the seashore, blues are your friend. The range of light blue to navy blue are accented nicely by clean whites or perhaps a seafoam green. This light bedspread offers a light blue color palette and features notable lighthouses from around the USA.

Paying attention to your floors is a smart choice when highlighting a “beachy” room. A bold area rug or runner can set the tone just right. For example our Portico Cablelock Braided Rug seen here to the left, is made of a durable 100% polypropylene that’s perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. The cablelock braided construction appears much like a sailing rope and while there are other colors available, the navy option implies the idea of sailing very nicely.

Living in Maine, we understand that coastal living really is a great way to live. And even if it snows for 6 months out of the year, the summer is a chance for us to appreciate the sea breezes, collect sea glass or perhaps enjoy the rocky coastline and off shore islands on a friend’s boat.  To instill these nautical inspired feelings in your home, it’s best to keep things feeling light and airy.

A great way to do that using Sturbridge decor, is with our delicate Seashell Lace Curtains. Shown here to the left, these easy care curtains are available in ecru or white. Showcasing an abundance of seashells, the real surprise however is the tiny sand dollar designed rod pocket on top. Speaking of seashells and sand dollars, these little sea treasures are one way you can add a touch of the beach around your home. Spend a day collecting various shells, star fish, sea glass and more, to decorate under a windowsill, on a bedside table or in the kitchen.

Once your bedding, floors and windows are complete with this decorating theme, it’s time to have some fun. At SYW, we have lots of ways to accent a beach house, cottage or your nautical home. In terms of empty wall space, we know you’ll love our Beach Rules Sign. Handmade of solid knotty pine wood, the distressed sign states the rules of  the beach: “Relax Enjoy, Relax, Enjoy.” If it’s the outside space you need a seashore accent, consider our new Sailboat Bracket & Bell. Greet guests with this well-crafted, recycled steel scroll bracket on the front or back door of your home. Hang with the nostalgic cow bell or opt for a small hanging plant instead. All of the products featured on this page are proudly made in the USA.
