Weekly Spotlight: Black Cat Appreciation

Wednesday, August 17th, 2016

Ghost Riders Halloween SculptureBlack Cat Kisses SculptureAugust 17th holds the title of Black Cat Appreciation Day, a day to recognize the not-so-spooky side of these lovable felines. This week we are Spotlighting five new home accents from our fall catalog that feature black cats, so you can show your appreciation for them throughout the season or all year long.

These black cat sculptures from Williraye Studio™ and Bethany Lowe are complementary while bringing their own kind of style. Ghost Riders features two ghosts atop a cheerful black cat, offering folk art charm and
handcrafted appeal.

Juggling Black Cat Hooked Wool Pillow

Black Cat Kisses adds a little shine to your collectible display, and offers pops of color that will stand out among your harvest decor. Both make whimsical gifts for a friend and add seasonal allure to your own collections.

Black Cat & Sunflower Hooked Wool Pillow

Two hooked wool pillows make our Spotlight list this week, and the first features bright colors surrounding a comical black cat practicing his juggling act. This pillow is a whimsical addition to any room, complementing seasonal as well as year round home accents. Let this character be a star among your collectibles by placing on a sofa, accent chair or even a shelf.

Bittersweet Black Cat Rug

Also complementary of your staple decor, artist Lisa Hilliker’s Black Cat & Sunflower Pillow features a deep red background from which a black cat and golden sunflower pop, making it the perfect accent for a country chair or rustic bench.

Our fifth home accent for the week is a beautiful jute rug by artist Susan Burd. Rich autumn colors enhance the details of the black cat resting on a pumpkin in the center, while the stars and bittersweets offer a relaxed look in any room. This accent rug is sure to steal the show on your floors, but is perfectly complementary to your seasonal collectibles and decorations.

* Whimsical Tin Sculptures for Your Halloween Decor *

Monday, September 17th, 2012

Over the past week we have introduced to you a variety of our new Halloween decor. With all the collectible characters, hooked wool pillows and spooky accents, there is so much to choose from amongst the assortment at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop. Of particular note this season, are two festive additions that will have your friends asking you where you ever found such a unique piece of sculptural art.

Pictured here to the left is our Cat Witch Riding Broom. A fun tin sculpture delights us with a cat woman’s fashionable approach to broomstick riding. Her black dress is accented by a printed, vintage black and white design. We also note a curly orange shirt collar that frames her cute cat face with whiskers. The cat witch’s white knee-high boots and whimsically tall wire hat with orange star and white feather, complete her festive look. No detail has gone unnoticed and she’s even sprinkled with some glitter, for a bit of extra flare. The tin ring supports the weight of this sculpture and is suitable for a side table, mantle space or with other decoratives in the center of a table.

On a similar idea though perhaps a bit more unexpected, is our Pumpkin Witch Riding Crow, shown here to the right. Here we find a stylish pumpkin woman who this time, is catching a ride on a friendly crow. The large black crow is made of a “puffed-out” metal to produce a three dimensional appearance, and the pumpkin witch is mounted on top. Her white dress is also accented by a printed black and white vintage design, and she polishes the trendy outfit with a tall striped hat and large bow necktie.

As with our Cat Witch Riding Broom, this sculpture features touches of glitter. A bat wire wand and her silver knee-high boots inspire a possible Halloween costume this season. An additional benefit of our Pumpkin Witch Riding Crow, is that the base of the sculpture is actually a jack-o-lantern tealight holder. Place a tealight or small votive in the designated space on the sturdy tin block, and you’re in for a real treat when decorating this Halloween. Pictured below is a close-up look of the sculpture’s base. Both of these tin sculptures highlighted here today, offer a twist on the standard Halloween decor and will be favored decorations for years to come.
