Iron BirdbathGilded Copper Hanging Lantern

Spring has unofficially transitioned into summer and with the first week of June only a few days away, we are excited to be adding, or continuing to add, décor to our outdoor spaces. We really like outdoor décor that is practical and functional, and will work in almost any environment, so here are some of our ideas on spicing up your gardens, backyards, porches, and patios this summer (and for summers to come!).

Going to the Birds

Bird watching can be done in almost any location, but outside your door is one of the best places not only in the summertime, but all year long. Welcome your avian companions with a full birdfeeder and bird bath, or a cheerful birdhouse in your gardens or near the edge of a forest. You can certainly purchase these accents, but making them can be just as fun too. Either way, your backyard will be adequately equipped to attract birds throughout the year, and it will be decorated with varying materials and colors.

Brighten Your Yard

Lighting is a crucial accent for any yard, large or small. Instead of vying for plain designs and shapes, look for outdoor lighting options that complement your home’s style, or any other outdoor décor. Lanterns, flameless pillar candles, or even tiki torches can set a country, casual, romantic, or festive mood for any backyard. A fire pit or outdoor fireplace is sometimes the best investment, as it provides warmth and lighting for you and your guests.

Seating for Everyone

Whether it’s a large patio or a small front porch, seating is a must-have. For less standard seating options, search for chairs, benches, and outdoor ottomans in stripes and prints that complement each other in color schemes, or mix and match wood chairs with a stone table. When it comes down to it, just be creative. Purchase standard chairs and then craft your own seat cushions, or start from scratch and construct your own seating to best match your home or outdoor vision and style.

New – Made in the USA, Outdoor Pillows & Chair Cushions

Monday, June 25th, 2012

There’s still time to get your patio, deck, or porch ready for summer. Whether you’re enjoying a peaceful moment alone in the garden or entertaining friends in the backyard, spruce up your seating with Sturbridge Yankee Workshop’s new chair cushions and pillows. Colorful, comfy and made in the USA, they will update your outdoor living space in time for your next gathering.

Our Green Floral Chair Cushion pictured here to the left, is just one of the new designs customers can choose from. Displaying a cheerful pattern of blooming blue and white flowers atop a bright green base, it’s perfect for summer living. This cushion is tufted too, creating an ultra-comfortable seat. Made of easy-care, spun polyester with the look and feel of cotton, you’ll be happy to learn they are entirely safe for outdoor use due to its weather-resistant fabric. And while equally suited indoors, our new chair cushions are perfect to use on your patio chairs or on an outdoor rocker; such as our Cottage Rocker (seen here to the left).

Another new design for summer, although perfect any time of year, would be the Black Floral print as shown on our Black Floral Toss Pillow below.

This print features a delicate white and muted pink, floral design with greenery, against a contrasting black background. Coordinate chair cushions with any of our outdoor pillows for a cohesive flow. Or mix and match in different areas around the home. Add a pop of color to your bench with our new pillows propped up on either side, for additional back or arm comfort. There is a matching pillow for each outdoor chair cushion, so choose your favorite, sit back, and relax.

Remember these products are still ideal for indoor use and can add warmth to darker spaces. Decorative, yet durable, our chair cushions and pillows are a functional option for your home. Made here in the USA, you can feel confident in their quality for years of use to come.

** Keeping outdoor cushions and pillows clean is the best thing you can do to extend the life of them. To clean: use a 50% combination of water with either a mild soap or detergent; never use bleach on printed fabrics.
