An inspiring home office (or den, or study) is always a very personal space, whether you can give an entire room the title of “home office” or just a corner in a common living area. In general, the ideal home office offers simplicity and rustic charm – the perfect combination for a space that doesn’t leave us feeling cluttered, while maintaining the cozy feeling of the rest of our home. We love how the desk, chair and other home furnishings are arranged below, and we have a few suggestions for how to recreate this area in your own home with decor from Sturbridge Yankee Workshop.
First off, the desk. You should always choose the type of desk or table that fits your preference and work needs. But to get the above look with the most functionality, we recommend a wood drop-leaf table or an extendable table so you can adjust it to the room and your daily tasks. For a little extra storage, choose a table with a small drawer or shelf. Don’t forget the table or desk lamp for some extra light!
As with the desk or table, the chair should offer a level of comfort and support that works for you. In keeping with the rustic look, our Ladderback Arm Chair does the job. In addition to the arms, its high back complements the comfort of the twisted paper seat.
Our next home accent will likely not come as a surprise to you. For an added layer of coziness, put an area rug on the floor. We are partial to braided rugs, and we recommend using a solid color rug or one with neutral tones to prevent the space from looking too busy.
The rest of the furnishings truly depend on how you use the office space or den, but you really cannot go wrong with a wicker or braided basket for storage, and an extra chair with a throw blanket for reading or enjoying the space without sitting at your desk. Add some wall art or your favorite country print, and keep your writing utensils and some extra paper in a writing box or bin.
