This week marks the 58th National Library Week, a time to show additional support for libraries and the many resources available through libraries.
In celebration, this week we are offering a few tips on creating a library space within your home; whether you have a bare corner you don’t know what to do with or an empty room you would like to transform into a space dedicate to knowledge, reading and relaxation.
A Comfortable Chair
To ensure you won’t fall asleep or strain your back by slouching as you read a captivating novel, we recommend a high back rocking chair with a plush seat so you can comfortably sit back for extended periods of reading time. Our Madison Rocker features a wide seat that doesn’t constrain and a high slatted back that supports. The Mission design is a classic look, especially in a richly decorated library. For extra seating, display space or to reach high shelves, our Library Chair (available in two rustic finishes) is a fully functional seating option that fits right in with your books and study materials.
A Bookcase
Of course, you need furniture that both displays and stores your books and library inspired treasures. Depending on your space, our Shaker Low Bookcase can offer shelving and even tabletop space next to your country chair. Our Shaker Tall Bookcases can fit in smaller libraries with just as much decorative and displaying potential.
Convenient Lighting
While overhead lighting is important, in a library you want to set a comfortable mood with an accent lamp or table lamp. Our texturally appealing Celina Accent Lamp brightens up the reading nook in your library not just through its warm light but with the alluring color of the lamp itself; perfect for any season.
Primitive Accents
For complementing your oldest tomes and charming new ones, ideal primitive home accents are worldly and decorative; appealing and functional. Our Hourglass Timer is not just a functioning timepiece but offers a sleek look on any bookshelf, desk or end table. Another statuesque treasure is our Iron Hare & Magnifying Glass Sculpture; get closer to fine print and hold loose papers steady on any tabletop surface. The rabbit will keep you company while you explore worlds within the pages of your favorite books. We suppose it also wouldn’t be a true library without at least one set of bookends for adding a little flair on the shelves of your bookcases.
