What you’ll need:
Filling:
- 5 to 6 cups thinly sliced and peeled apples
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 unbaked, 9-inch pie shell
Topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- FILLING: Place sliced apples in a mixing bowl. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, flour, and spices. Stir until mixture is well blended, then set aside.
- Prepare pie pastry; fit into a pie plate and set aside.
- TOPPING: In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, butter, oats, and pecans. Pulse until mixture is crumbly (a pastry blender or fork may also work to mix topping together).
- Pour apple filling mixture into the prepared pie shell. Sprinkle topping mixture evenly over apples, then place in preheated oven.
- After approximately 35 minutes, check to make sure crust is not getting too brown. If desired, sprinkle extra chopped pecans on top.
- Bake for an extra 10 minutes or until the apples are tender and topping is browned.
- Let cool for about 5 minutes, then slice and serve alone or with ice cream (will serve about 8).
