Tuesday Recipe: National Waffle Day

Waffles March 25, 2014 is National Waffle Day. What better way to celebrate than with scrumptious waffles? If you have a waffle maker, today is the day to grease it up and get ready to grill.

Waffle Day began in Sweden as Vaffeldagen, due to confusion between the Swedish “varfrudagen” meaning “Our Lady’s Day” which occurs on the same date, historically marking the beginning of spring, celebrated by eating waffles. Sounds like a rather delightful way to welcome the season, don’t you think?

Alternatively, the American Waffle Day on August 24th honors the anniversary of the patenting of the first United States waffle iron invented by Cornelius Swarthout. We think waffles are special enough to be celebrated  both days.
