Tuesday Recipe: Dirt and Worms (the edible family fun dessert)!

In honor of National Gummi Worm Day (July 15th), we at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop are sharing a long loved childhood treat: Dirt and Worms!  Many of you have most likely enjoyed this treat with your children or grandchildren.  If you have yet to try Dirt and Worms, now is your chance!

This delightfully fun dessert is full of Mud (chocolate pudding), Dirt (crushed cookies), and Worms (gummi worms).  For easier serving, make the dessert in individually sized cups for each person.  You could even serve this recipe at a bug themed birthday party!  This is a very simple dessert that can easily be made with children.

  • 1 pkg.  (3.9 oz.) Instant Chocolate Pudding
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 tub (8 oz.) Whipped Topping (ex: Cool Whip), thawed
  • 15  Cream sandwich cookies (ex: Oreos), finely crushed
  • 10  Worm-shaped chewy fruit snacks or gummies

To Assemble:

Combine the pudding mix and milk in large bowl and whisk for 2 min. Let stand 5 min. Stir in the whipped topping and 1/2 cup of the cookie crumbs.

Next, spoon the pudding mixture into individual cups and top with the remaining cookie crumbs.

Lastly, refrigerate the desserts for 1 hour.  Place gummi worms inside each cup just before serving.

Finally, enjoy!  Did you try this recipe?  Let us know what you think!
