National Chocolate Caramel Day the Turtle Way

Haeger Sheet PanFor National Chocolate Caramel Day, we had a hard time selecting a recipe to share. This one is a Southern favorite and this variation is kid friendly.

Microwave Homemade Turtle Candy

You Will Need:
milk chocolate
individually wrapped caramels
6 to 12 oz bag of pecans
waxed paper
cookie sheet
margarine or butter flavored spread

 

Instructions:
Line cookie sheet with waxed paper.
Grease waxed paper with margarine.
Slice half of the pecans in half, lengthwise and the remainder in half cross-wise.
Arrange four length halves and one cross-half in a star pattern on waxed paper.
Unwrap caramels and soften in microwave until caramel is sticky, but not melted. (30 second intervals)
Press caramels onto pecans, one per star, making sure the pecans are stuck.
Melt chocolate in microwave, stirring frequently.
Spook over caramels.
Allow to cool.
