Weekly Spotlight: Set the Table with Turkeys

Wednesday, November 7th, 2018

This week, we’re finalizing the items we’ll need to set the table for Thanksgiving. And besides the most important turkey of them all, we’ve included a few extras to create the perfect look (plus a few non-turkey essentials) in this weekly spotlight.

The Starters

Harvest Melamine Dinnerware | Forged Loop 5PC Flatware Set | Pumpkin Wagon Salt & Pepper Set | Sturbridge Yankee Workshop

Flatware and dinnerware are obviously essential for dining, and luckily you can refresh your collection with new pieces from Sturbridge Yankee Workshop. Our melamine collection features a few beautiful colors, but none is better for this time of year than the Harvest Orange. Our Flatware Set is handcrafted out of stainless steel that offers a unique look with appealing durability. And back for another year is the Pumpkin Wagon Salt & Pepper Shakers, a fun way to serve and store the two basic seasonings on your table.

The Dressings

It’s no secret that we love wool table runners, and the Turkey & Gourd Felt Applique Table Runner is one of our new favorites because of its rustic country aesthetic and neutral color tones. Plus, the whimsical turkey and gourd imagery is quite unique. To complement this table runner and the season, our Large Turkey Leaf Candle Holder (two shown below) can be dressed up with small plants, and placing a candle inside creates warm mood lighting perfect for dinnertime.

Thanksgiving Tablescape

Thanksgiving Chalkboard Display by Chalk it Up Decor

Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and if you feel like your decorations are missing that little something that would make them perfect, here are some last-minute decorating ideas you can throw together in no time.

  • Floral Lace Table Runner/Chair SashPlace cards only require a pen, paper, scissors and maybe some twine or ribbon, but can take your dining room table from blah to beautiful. Write “thankful,” “grateful,” or the names of your guests and place them around cloth napkins or on each place setting.
  • Speaking of ribbon, this craft accessory does wonders when you have limited time. Buy a bulk amount with a printed turkey or leaf pattern, or in fall colors, and tie around glassware, chairs, collectibles and even lighting.
  • A strategically placed chalkboard with a message of thanks or invitation will enhance the warmth of your home; place behind a scented candle or among flower arrangements and use cursive or block lettering to make the Thanksgiving message stand out.
  • Glass vases and apothecary jars always bring elegance to a table or surface in your home, and for Thanksgiving the best things to fill them with are acorns, leaves and even mini pumpkins and gourds. Use faux varieties or go into your backyard for the real thing.
  • Table runners always enhance the decorative appeal of your entertainment spaces, and many can also be used as chair sashes, adding complementary elegance to your dining room or kitchen chairs.

Colorful Leaf Accents for Your Home this Fall

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Decorating with leaves might be the obvious choice when it comes to decorating for fall, but with our selection of leaf themed products, you’ll wish you could display them year round. And you can, leaf decor lends well to a nature inspired environment and offers the essence of being outdoors, throughout all seasons. At Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we have an assortment of different types of leaves too; including Aspen, Maple, Oak and more. Before we see how you can decorate with them, let’s take a look at some leaf facts.

1. A leaf is an above-ground plant organ specialized for the use of photosynthesis.

2. They are rich in protein, sugar and minerals, making them great food for animals and humans (i.e. leafy vegetables).

3. Deciduous trees and plants are the ones that lose their leaves during fall.

4. Chlorophyll is the green pigment, that when lost due to less sunlight, is what allows the leaves to turn their pretty reds, oranges and yellows.

5. Fall foliage tourists, called “Leaf Peepers,” find that early to mid-October is the peak for best leaf colors in Northern New England.

Pictured above, is our made in the USA, Leaf Harvest Table Runner. With a solid center and exposed vein detailing on the leaves, this lace table runner will surely be the star of your harvest dining table this season.

Rounding out our leaf tabletop assortment, we have a fabulous selection of leaf placemats. The Quilted Leaf Placemats are machine washable and come as a set of four in bright colors of green, gold, orange, and burgundy. With its handcrafted padding to help you protect your tabletop, these placemats will be your go-to table accent of the season. A more delicate look is found in our Aspen Leaf and Maple Leaf placemats; both with an intricate lace design. Complete your harvest feast with our new Leaf Napkin Rings, and you’ll have the best looking table around. Shown here to the left, the metal leaves are painted in orange, red, mustard and brown; offering an individually unique leaf for each guest.

For an alternative to the typical leaf, we hope you’ll see the beauty in our Sugar Maple Iridescent Ornament. A copper Iridescent dipped, real Sugar Maple leaf is attached to a green organza ribbon. This autumn ornament is ready to hang in window or adorn a wrapped gift. Proudly handcrafted in the USA of natural materials, we have other real leaf ornaments available.
