Weekly Spotlight: Camping and the Great Outdoors

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

Camping Dog Indoor/Outdoor RugHappy June 1st! We’ve been ready to kick summer into high gear, and to celebrate the start of Camping Month and Great Outdoors Month® we are featuring five camping essentials to bring with you on your great outdoor excursions.

Whether you’re sleeping in a tent, camper or in a camp with four sturdy walls, an indoor/outdoor rug is a must. This adventurous Camping Dog is perfect for laying down on an outdoor porch or the ground to keep your sleeping quarters or indoor spaces free of dirt. With mountains in the distance and wheels on the road, you may find similarities in your own surroundings that enhance the woodsy charm.

Scented Firestarters

Summer campfires have to be the unofficial mascot of summer. Start warming up or making s’mores with a well-built fire, and if you need a little help to get the flames going, our fire starters will do the trick! With four scents to choose from, you can even make your event or trip a little more cozy.

Scented Camping MugsTo go along with the fire starters, our Scented Camping Mug Candles are perfect for placing on picnic tables or campground stumps for extra lighting and again, a little extra coziness. When the candle is done burning, you have a 10 ounce mug to drink from! Both the Scented Firestarters and Mug Candles are eco-friendly and biodegradable, so you don’t have to worry about leaving to big of a footprint at your camping site or forest cabin.

Kitchen Storage Tins Set

Evergreen Trees Paper Placemat Pads

When you start packing snacks and food for the trip, think about using sealed tin containers for saving space and keeping your goodies fresh throughout your excursion. Our Kitchen Storage Tins come as a set of three, and while they look great in your kitchen at home, they are also ideal containers to bring along this summer.

Finally, make camping cleanup easy with Paper Placemats featuring woodland imagery to complement your natural surroundings. Printed on recycled paper with eco-friendly inks, you won’t have to worry about contributing an environmental mess on your weekend away.

Decorating with a Rustic Cabin Feel

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Whether you’re looking to decorate your summer camp, family cabin or just want to evoke a lakeside feel in your home for the coming months, this summer you’ve come to the right place. At Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we offer many ways to achieve this decorating theme. Let’s take a look below.

Cabin decor features dark colors, as usually accomplished by stained wood paneling, high wooden ceiling beams and a combination of hardwood flooring and braided area rugs. Natural elements such as birch bark accents, pinewood cabinets and stone fireplaces go a long way too. The more distressed, worn or handmade items appear within the camp inspired home, will only add to a feeling of true natural beauty. Bringing a sense of the outdoors, into the indoor environment, should be the goal; alongside an overall level of “cozy comfort” throughout the entire living space. Pictured here to the left are our Classic Country Chair Pads, which present a nice country accent in a log home setting. Coordinating Classic Country Check Curtains work well in a rustic kitchen or dining area; available in Barn Red, Mustard or Black.

Setting the tone for your Cabin Decorating theme, is easy when focused in the entryway. Our Oar Hook Rack, seen here to the right is a clever way to hang your jackets, hats and the dog leash. The handcrafted, large wooden oar features exposed wood grain and natural distressing. The top of the oar presents a rustic red paint application with three black iron hooks. Or if you prefer, place above a fireplace mantle for a decorative touch.

Remember relaxed, comfy living is key within this decor theme and that means putting your feet up. Like on our Bear Foot Rest, shown here to the left. Spoil tired, aching feet with a place to “hibernate” after a long day of work, fishing or hiking. Handcrafted of plush 100% polyester “fur,” this bear is part of our made in the USA sale, now only $189.95.

Another option at SYW for decor with functional comfort, is our new Lake House Pillow. This 100% hooked wool pillow is designed by Suzanne Nicoll and offers firm lumbar, back support on a bed or a couch. The design details a lakeside scene complete with Adirondack chairs, canoe and paddles on a deep green base.

And to round out the assortment, try highlighting blank wall space with any of our new Camping Signs. Proudly made in the USA, they are on sale now from $14.95 – $24.95, this summer at Sturbridge. Handcrafted with either a distressed green or cream painted  pinewood base with rubbed edges, these signs capture nostalgia just right. Display all together and recall camping trips with the family at the lake, summer camp as a kid, or even a great time in your backyard toasting marshmallows over a fire. Choose from Gone Fishing, Go Jump in the Lake or Sunsets & S’mores, pictured below.
