Thursday’s Theme: Sink Skirt Inspiration (and tutorials)

Thursday, April 25th, 2019

The sink skirt: a decorative and affordable way to hide unsightly pipes and under-the-counter storage space. It has apparently made a reappearance in home trends this year, although with many farmhouse and rustic home trends we often find ourselves thinking timeless decor never goes out of style! Anyway, we’ve rounded up a few lovely skirted sinks for inspiration, as well as three tutorials for making your own. Take a look below.

Tutorials

First up is Exquisitely Unremarkable’s sink skirt how-to. This one is unique because instead of removing cabinet doors under the sink, the skirt fabric is mounted to the doors. This technique is perfect if you prefer a swinging open over a sliding or velcro open, but still want that authentic skirted look.

Second is a velcro sink skirt from Life After Laundry. This particular one is made to be gathered, which gives the fabric a little more decorative appeal, but it could be left ungathered if you prefer. This tutorial is also a great reminder that skirted sinks aren’t just for the kitchen – they are perfect in a bathroom, too (around a pedestal or console sink, especially).

And third is the tension rod technique from HomeSpunStyle. This skirted sink requires a little more hardware but the result is worth it, especially if you opt for the pleats!

And here are some skirted sinks that caught our eye. If you’ve ever considered a sink skirt, or have one in your kitchen (or bathroom), let us know below and tell us how it has worked for you.
