Monday Must-Haves: Late Summer Garden

Monday, August 6th, 2018

Acorn Basket Twine HolderSoon we’ll be bundling up and spending more time inside as the days get cooler, shorter, and closer to winter. But we still have a few more weeks left of summer, so spend them making up your late summer garden with the following must-have home accents.

Dragonfly Nature Bracket

Plot out your final flower beds and last-minute veggies with the Acorn Basket Twine Holder. The roll of biodegradable twine seen here is included, so start plotting now!

For plants already in pots or climbing varieties needing some support, the Flower Pot Leaf Garden Trellis can help prolong the life of your vegetation. Attach the Dragonfly Nature Bracket to the side of a garden shed, garage or your home and display a hanging pot of geraniums or other outdoor-tolerant flower.

While the above accessories are a little more summer specific, the Garden Votive Sparkle Cones and Gardener’s Boot and Utility Shelf can be utilized all year long. The former can illuminate your summer nights, fall evenings and even add more magic to winter days. The latter is ideal for storing your gardening supplies – in season or out of season – but could also be used as a furniture piece in a bedroom, mudroom or kitchen.

Thursday’s Theme: Farmhouse Porch Lighting Four Ways

Thursday, July 19th, 2018

Since we are having our Fall Lighting Sale, we have lighting on the brain. So today we’ve curated four farmhouse porch lighting options that each offer a different look, yet provide timeless charm and illumination in outdoor living spaces.

First is the simple lantern sconce. This lighting fixture looks beautiful next to your front doors,
but is equally practical on the posts of a porch, as you can see in the image below. Frosted glass
offers a more primitive appearance so opt for this kind if that’s the look you prefer.

If you have a wrap-around or large porch, lighting along the ceiling is usually the best way
to get the most light after dark. Pendants like the ones below are perfect for a farmhouse porch
because they resemble vintage oil lamps, but are conveniently powered by electricity.

For a porch (or deck) on which you plan to have meals or small gatherings, an accent
pendant light will separate this portion of the porch so that it feels like its own outdoor room.
The bulb (likely an antique one) in this light is exposed, and the distressed metal shade gives
a rustic look not only to the pendant but to the entire porch.

We are in love with the large caged ceiling fan below, which provides both light
and moving air to the living space below. Having a lighting solution with multiple functionalities
is always a great option, especially when it can help keep you cool in the summer months.
