Tasteful Tuesday: Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

That’s right – a Fall twist on this Holiday / Winter classic.

Hot ChocolateWhat You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
    or marshmallows, optional
  • Dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg, optional


  1. In a saucepan over medium heat,
    whisk together the milk, cream, chocolate and cocoa powder until chocolate is melted and smooth; about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Stir in pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice until fully incorporated.
  3. Pour into mugs, and if desired, top with whipped cream and dust with cinnamon and nutmeg. Enjoy!

Five Classic Holiday Drink Recipes

The following five beverage recipes are must-make concoctions for the holiday season. Whether you’re looking for something to warm you, refresh you or give any party an extra kick, these will do the trick!

Homemade Hot Cocoa (1 serving)

Hot Chocolate


  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • whipped cream
  • ground cinnamon

Directions: In a small pot on the stove, combine milk, cocoa powder and sugar. Heat on medium-low and stir until cocoa and sugar dissolve. Add vanilla and continue stirring until just before boiling. Pour into a a mug and top with whipped cream, cinnamon, and marshmallows, if desired.

Hot Buttered Rum (4 servings)

Directions: In a medium bowl, add brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat until fully blended and smooth. Transfer to a 4-cup (or larger) measuring cup or bowl. Add the rum and cups of boiling water; stir until the butter mixture dissolves. Divide the buttered rum among 4 mugs. Garnish with the cinnamon sticks and serve.

CranberriesCranberry-Pomegranate Cooler (6 – 8 servings)


  • Cubed ice
  • 32 fluid oz. cranberry-pomegranate juice
  • 8 fluid oz. sparkling water
  • 1 lime
  • 1 cup cranberries

Directions: Fill a pitcher or punch bowl about 1/3 full of ice. Add cranberry-pomegranate juice and top with sparkling water. Cut up lime in thin slices, add to pitcher/punch bowl. Pour in cranberries, stir and serve!

Spiced Citrus Sangria (6 – 8 servings)


Citrus Fruits

  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups spiced rum
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 750-mL Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1 cup orange juice

Directions: Chill fruit and liquid ingredients for at least 2 hours. Place the fruit in a large pitcher, then add rum and sugar. Stir gently and refrigerate for at least 2 more hours. Add the wine and orange juice, stir. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

White Wine Sangria (6 – 8 servings)


  • 1 750-mL bottle Pinot Gris, or other dry white wine
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 lime, sliced thick
  • 1 lemon, slicked thick
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 bunch green grapes
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda

Directions: Combine white wine, brandy and sugar in a large pitcher, stirring until sugar is mostly dissolved. Chill for at least 2 hours. Add lime, lemon, apple and grapes. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving. Top everyone’s glass off with lemon-lime soda. Enjoy!

New England Hot Chocolate

Raspberry White Chocolate SconesCelebrate the season and National Chocolate Day (Dec 28th and 29th) with a mug of hot chocolate.

1/4 C sugar
1 Tbs baking cocoa
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 C hot water
1 Tbs butter
4 C milk
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
12 large marshmallows

In a large saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, and salt.
Stir in hot water and butter; bring to a boil.
Add the milk, maple syrup, vanilla and 8 marshmallows.
Heat through, stirring occasionally, until marshmallows melt.
Pour into mugs and top each with a marshmallow.
