Thursday’s Theme: Pet Decor

Thursday, June 11th, 2015

This week has been a special Pet Appreciation Week, although we know the appreciation you have for your pets extends to much longer than a week. We share our lives with our pets, as well as our homes, so we couldn’t think of a better topic for this week’s Décor article than pet décor! From accessories and necessities for your pets, to pet themed décor for your enjoyment, there are many ways for you to show appreciation towards your pet in addition to the love you give them.

For Your Pet

Spoiling our pets is almost second nature, whether it is with a variety of squeaky toys or delicious treats. If you’d like to replace that cardboard treat box on your counter with something that complements your kitchen or entryway décor, you have many options. You could try something simple, like a large Mason jar with a ribbon and a handmade nametag, or you can find a stylish tin to store those dog or cat treats inside. If you’re feeling crafty, you could even craft your own treat holder to place by a back door, complete with a leash hook!

Dog Treat TinFor those of you with feline companions, cat nip may be on your cat’s necessity list. There are many stylish cat nip options available, but it’s also relatively easy to do-it-yourself. Sew Licious Home Décor has a great tutorial on crafting cat nip out of fabric and string that you can use time and time again to please your pet.

For Your Home

There are countless décor items you can incorporate into your home that are pet themed, like rugs, sculptures and figurines, picture frames, pillows, and so much more. However, if you are looking to get a little more detail oriented and personal with your pet décor, you may consider screen-printing a picture of your furry loved one onto a decorative pillow or throw.

Kitty Face Pillow

For ideas on how to effectively design your own screen-printed pillow, we found a fun how-to on the Yellow Brick Home blog, complete with cute pet reactions to seeing the images on home accents. This is a great way to showcase any larger, non-house pets you may have, like horses or other farm animals. You’ll be able to show your love for them inside your home, during the times you can’t be outside with them.

We’d love to see how you’ve decorated in honor of your furry family members, and how you show your appreciation for them. Happy decorating!

Handsome Horses

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014
Horses have long been a standing symbol of rustic country decor, especially for ranch style, Western themed rooms and furnishings. We here at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop enjoy horse themed decor in many styles and are happy to share some of our favorites with you.
Horse Stall Wall Mural Majestic Horse Wall Art

Showcase your love for all things equine with a wall mural like the one shown here. Stunning imagery creates a focal point in a living room or in a child’s animal themed room. Water based inks and natural fibers add to the charm of this American-made wall mural. Artist Gary Crandall created this spectacular view at horses charging through an open area, kicking up dust as they gallop along.

Rustic Horse Display

Add a conversation piece to your mantel space or on a table centerpiece with Metal Horse Display, offering antique charm. Resembling historic weather vanes, this horse display is crafted to appear distressed and weathered as if it were sitting atop a house indicating the changes in precipitation and sunshine for eons. Its painted features enhance the overall look and feel of this interesting piece.

Horseshoe Inn Pillow Folk Art Horses

A sleek brown horse, with a gorgeous mane, is the central feature of this pillow. Image looks crackled and textured as though it were copied from an old wooden sign from the real-life Horseshoe Inn. With a muted mustard background, and sage green and black check pattern on the back, this pillow will work well with your current country style. Artist Warren Kimble is nationally recognized for his casual but sophisticated style of American folk art.

Wrought Iron Horse Accents

Add instant country charm with horse themed decorative accents crafted from sturdy wrought iron. Used for many purposes, from napkin holders to fire stokers, iron has a welcome spot in any rustic country homestead. Accent your home with wrought iron tissue and napkin holders, or small wall hooks that will keep towels, bags and coats orderly and neat. These accents are also available in other designs to fill your entire home with farmhouse themed animals and country shapes.
