Monday Must-Haves: Halloween Characters

Monday, August 28th, 2017

Our Halloween collection is full of whimsical collectibles, wall art and pillows, as well as timeless characters and symbols that will make every year just as spooky (and charming) as the last. For the next two weeks you can get special savings on our batty, ghostly and witchy decor, including the following five must-haves.

Come Sit a Spell Doormat

Come sit a spell on the stoop, and fend off myths of bad luck with this black cat. Made in the USA, this doormat designed by Dianna Swartz will add charm to your porch or front steps, and keep your entryway free of mud and dirt this fall.

All Hallow's Eve Lighted Shadow Box

Trick or Treat Halloween SignBlack cats also appear in Bethany Lowe’s All Hallow’s Eve Shadow Box, which also features vintage imagery that appears on many other home accents.

A whimsical rhyme at the bottom of the box offers the following wish: “By pumpkins fat and witches lean…By coal black cats with eyes of green…By all the magic ever seen…I wish you luck this HALLOWEEN!!”

Offering up the option of a Trick or Treat is a USA made, SYW exclusive sign featuring a black bat and spooky typography. The handcrafted frame and birch wood add a rustic look to your seasonal home accents and Halloween displays.

A little ghost can add a classic Halloween look to your collectibles and seasonal decor, and this one will also brighten them up. An LED light illuminates this waxy figure holding a BOO banner, and the included bag and twine make this accent a perfect party favor, too.

Finally, one of our newest witch sculptures. Nellie here holds a broomstick, ready to fly off into the night. Shiny gold accents adorn the bow on her hat, her legs and the bodice of her black dress for a sparkling look on a shelf or mantel.

All five are made in the USA and done by three artists with different, yet charming styles. Display on your walls all year long or coordinate with your fall home accents once summer is officially over.

Fred Swan

View of New Hampshire from Vermont is a picturesque print with exquisite depth. Artist Fred Swan has given us a perspective from the top of a hill, overlooking a quaint farmhouse, barn and the rolling mountains of New England.

Grandpa's Giant Pumpkin Print | Bonnie WhiteBonnie White

In true Bonnie White fashion, Lucky 13 and Grandpa’s Giant Pumpkin both charm us and offer their own form of entertainment with the use of people and animals. The latter is perfect for fall; pumpkins, colorful leaves and fun family gatherings are quintessential harvest elements.

Lucky 13 aims to turn the tables on Halloween folklore by showing costumed children having fun – not avoiding – the cute black cats in town.

Weekly Spotlight: Getting Comfortable with Throw Blankets

Wednesday, October 5th, 2016

Iron Quilt StandThrow blankets are country home staples, but every home could use the extra comfort these blankets bring to furniture and family rooms. Below, we feature five throws you can find at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop that will make the fall season just a bit cozier.

Our Apothecary Quilted Throw has been with us for many years, which has a lot to do with its seasonal versatility and vibrant solid color options. The pattern is inspired by vintage tin ceilings, and the lightweight cotton will keep you comfortable well past autumn. This throw is perfect for any room, and is part of our Apothecary Quilt Collection which complements many decorating styles.

Also featuring a primitive design, the Wedding Ring Knit Throw brings classic elegance to any space with the ivory colored fibers and symbolic pattern. The thick cotton is ideal for fall nights and winter mornings when the temperature is cooler than usual, and this home accent makes a thoughtful gift for an anniversary or for newlyweds, unless of course you can’t bring yourself to part with it.

Freeport Ticking Stripe BlanketWedding Ring Knit ThrowBlue and cream cotton add a ticking stripe look to the back of your sofa, a chair or the top of your bed with our Freeport Ticking Stripe Throw. Proudly made in Maine, the luxurious cotton creates a gentle feel as you cozy up next to the fire or read the latest fall novel. Like the Apothecary Quilted Throw, this blanket is part of a collection of larger sized blankets that can be used on your bed year-round.

Vintage Star Quilt ThrowWe wouldn’t be Sturbridge Yankee Workshop if we didn’t highlight something with country checks on it. Enter: the Vintage Star Quilted Throw. The distinctive two-tone check exudes comfort and timeless charm, accented by primitive stars that complete the patchwork look. This soft cotton throw is ideal for getting cozy on the couch to watch a movie, or for taking an afternoon nap. You can find the coordinating Quilt Collection here.

Apple Harvest Basket Throw Blanket

While these throws are complementary of year-round decor, our fifth featured throw is perfect for fall decorating and relaxing. A basket of apples lies among tall grass, autumn leaves and gerbera daisies on the Apple Harvest Basket Throw. The burlap appearance adds to the natural charm of the imagery by artist Susan Winget, and  the frayed edges create casual appeal for an entryway bench or couch in the family room. If you decorate with apples all year long, this throw is a must have.
