We wrote about the barn door trend in 2016, and we still see it being incorporated into homes. A pantry door in a country kitchen; as a sliding entry into a powder room; the possibilities are quite endless.

Decorating in Farmhouse Style

This post was inspired by a primitive dining space that emphasizes the function, comfort and timeless appeal of farmhouse style.

Colorful Country Kitchens

Current farmhouse trends are commonly about whites and grays, so we compiled some colorful country kitchens that offer a more personal look.

Decorating With Color: Yellow

Thursday, August 16th, 2018

We’re back with another Decorating with Color blog post, and this time around we’re talking about using yellow in your home. This color is great for farmhouses, rustic cottages, country kitchens, family living spaces, and makes a great accent color. With so many hues ranging from almost-white to dark and golden, the spectrum of yellow allows for a number of decorating possibilities. Here are a few examples.

Painting doors, window frames, even staircase spindles offers a rustic pop of color
that is cohesive but not intrusive. If you like this look but don’t think it would work
for your entire house, apply it to one room, like an entryway, mudroom or shed.

This living room is grand in more ways than one, but the yellow walls enhance its sunny character.
Plus, you know we couldn’t resist sharing those matching yellow check chairs and ottomans!

Golden or mustard yellow is a classic color for a country kitchen, and it displays
beautifully in the one below. If you don’t want to take the committed plunge with
all yellow cabinets,  incorporate a yellow rug, table, hutch or other furnishing. With a
more rustic tone, the yellow offers a more natural and cozy look that ages beautifully.

We will always enjoy picking out fun and/or elegant wallpaper, especially when
suggesting you try a new color in your home. The pattern on the below wallpaper
chops up the solid yellow and tones it down, creating a less intense look that still
has plenty of charm. A small bathroom is a great place to experiment with this, because
added wall hangings like mirrors or storage solutions also help break up a bold color.

Decorating with Color: Spring Greens

Thursday, May 17th, 2018

With all the lush trees, flowers and plant life surrounding us during this time of year, today we’re featuring the color that encapsulates the charm of spring: green. Below we’ve shared a few ways to use the different shades of green in your home.

Cabinets

In the kitchen or in the bathroom, green is a great complement to just about every design style: farmhouse, modern, mid-century and more. Gold, muted yellow, wood materials all work with green, so you are sure to find accents and additional decor to coordinate with whatever shade of green you select.

Walls

Paint is a great way to freshen up any living space, so if you’re ready to take the plunge, paint an entire room in your favorite green hue. For added texture, you could also try green beadboard or shiplap, or find a green patterned wall paper to give your home a spring infusion.

Accents

Of course, sprinkling green around your home can also bring a cheerful look to each room. Some ideas include painting stairs, incorporating a green furniture piece or painting your doors and windows the same shade of green. Green home accents like pillows, curtains, collectibles and more will also make a spring-y impression.
