We have been talking about Back to School all week on the blog (with recipes and furniture storage as the focus) and today will be no different. Here are some essential home accents for having a successful and well organized school year – it all starts at home, after all!
We have discussed command centers on the blog before, and the black cupboard above really exemplifies what a command center is all about. Magnetic white boards on the inside of the doors for hanging permission slips, pictures and for writing notes; shelves and wall hooks to hang and store backpacks, coats, shoes and accessories; and even a charging station for electronics – which is also a great place to put them when you’re having cellphone-free family time.
If you have more space, and want to keep all of your storage close to a command center, turn your focus to a front hall or mudroom. Utilize open hooks and shelving as well as cupboards, counter space and drawers for yours and the kids’ belongings.
No matter their age, kids also need a space they can really call their own. Use bulletin boards and chalkboards in an office, family room or bedroom to allow their creativity to shine through and allow them to organize themselves without your help.
Hanging documents like report cards, calendars and permission slips on a bulletin board in an entryway above wall hooks is great for remembering important dates and events as you leave and enter your home. Give your kids their own work space, or incorporate it into your home office so you can work together on special projects and everyone’s favorite: homework!
We hope these tips help you organize your home and explore what is best for the space and family you have. Share with us your techniques, and have a great school year!
