At Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we are very excited to have a new assortment of outdoor gardening tools. Recently added, the products featured below are website exclusive items for us. If not for yourself, any of these would make the perfect gift for the gardener in your life. Let’s take a look.
Pictured here to the left is a pair of our Celia Birtwell Garden Gloves. Made of 100% printed cotton, you’ll find these gloves to be a stylish alternative to the standard gardening gloves. Displaying a printed design of blue, red, green and black, in a retro inspired floral pattern. This pair of Garden Gloves will make you feel fashionable in your at home garden, throughout all seasons.
The designer Celia Birtwell is a well-known icon of British fashion and design. Celia’s distinctive designs were very popular in London during the 1960’s and 70’s; she is credited for her contribution to haute couture (high fashion in French) culture during this time. Creating bold, yet romantic prints for various textiles used in her clothing designs for both men and woman. She even designed clothing for such celebrities as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Her inspiration comes from artists such as Pablo Picasso and Matisse. If you like this design, consider our Celia Birtwell Garden Pruners. Featuring the same Celia Birtwell print on the handle, these stainless steel pruners have Teflon coated, heat treated blades. In addition, they can cut up 3-4 inch stems with the easy locking safety catch.
Another new, website exclusive item for your at-home gardening needs, is none other than our handy Wooden Seed Pot Maker. Shown here to the left, this acorn shaped, wooden dowel assists in the creation of “seed pots.” Seed pots are perfect for the beginning stages of seed growth; it allows for a secure base for the seedling to sprout. Crafted of beech wood, it features a cute quote, “From little acorns do mighty Oaks grow.”
How to Make Your Own Seed Pot
–> Tear off a small piece of newspaper and wrap it around the body; folding in the access paper underneath. Next, insert the wrapped dowel into the bottom of its removable tray and twist. Lastly, remove Seed Pot Maker to see circular form in the now “paper pot.” Add soil or compost, water and a seed. Or, use this dowel to form center hole in your soil when potting more mature plants and flowers.
A final helpful garden tool that’s new this summer at SYW, is our Gardening String in a Tin (shown below). While providing many uses around the home as well, this “string in a tin” is perfect for tying unruly plants, gathering vegetables or even tying up bird houses. The integrated blade on the lid means there’s no need for scissors; simply pull out the length you require and snap off. The 100% tin exterior features the quote, “One of the most delightful things about a garden is the anticipation it provides.”
